Many cavers will have passed through County Pot as an easy way into Ease Gill Caverns. Soon after the first 7m pitch there is a short, polished 3m climb down into the large and impressive passage known as Broadway. The way on from here is downstream and up to the right into Showerbath Passage, which is why many people never venture far up Broadway. Broadway is however well worth a look, because it illustrates the complex history of the formation of Ease Gill. It does this by the presence of many sediments, calcite formations and wall features. So the next time you venture down County, stop for a minute to have a look at the features and to ponder on the ancient processes that left them behind.
