In July and August 2009, Cambridge University Caving Club returned to the Totes Gebirge mountains in the Austrian Alps to continue exploration of the cave systems of the Loser Plateau. After four weeks of bolting airy pitches, extruding ourselves through tight squeezes, bivouacking in the mountains, and enduring everything the weather could throw at us (from blazing sunshine to driving rain - the latter both above and below ground...), we returned to the UK with just under 3km of new cave passage surveyed. The founda-tions had also been laid for some exciting discoveries in future CUCC expeditions.
