In a recent article on managing information technology, information managers were asked to consider the following: When you hire somebody to lix the sagging porch in your house, do you expect them to come to the door bragging about the wonderful drill they're going to use on your porch? Surely not. The lesson, of course, is that information managers should also resist the temptation to equate technology alone with their value to their customers. Sell the skills, not the tools.
