It has totally surpassed my expectations. When I accepted this position I was told I need to ensure that the SABS is run like a business and that it must become responsive to the needs of its shareholders. It was a challenge that really excited me. However, my arrival at the organization coincided with a very tragic incident. Consequently I found myself stepping into an environment that was charged with all manner of emotional turmoil. There was strong polarisation, not only along racial lines, but also between management and subordinates, our head office and the regions, and also the SABS and its external environment.
