Now is the time to buy sheet. Prices are at the bottom, and mills are already asking for increases. We are not convinced the hikes will stick this early, but sometime in the fourth quarter they will, and prices will move up. We do not expect the initial rebound to be very sharp, but 2012 could see strong upward movement. This remains a good time to start shopping for plate. Don't rush to finalize the buy, but don't dawdle either. Prices are declining and should hit bottom in September or October. They will start to rebound by the end of the year. Don't expect as sharp a drop for plate as you will see for sheet. Plate has controlled supply and good demand so prices will slide only moderately.
