The finding of a section, potential candidate for the definition of the Global Stratigraphic Section and Point (GSSP) of the Langhian Stage, was the main goal of the project "In search of the Global Stratotype Section and Point of the Langhian Stage and paleoceanographic implication" granted by the Italian Min-istry of University and scientific Research (MIUR) and supported by the Subcommision on Neogene Stratigraphy (SNS).
