In the recently released Short Term Outlookfor 2013-14, World Steel Association has envisaged the global apparent steel use increasing by 3.1% to 1,475 Mt in 2013, slightly up from the growth of 2.0% in 2012. In 2014, it is forecast that global steel demand will grow further by 3.3% and will reach 1,523 Mt. According to the Association despite the eurozone crisis stabilising through the past six months and now expected to continue for the rest of 2013, the pickup in the eurozone is expected to remain weak with steel demand increasing only by 2.1% in 2014 to 137.8 Mt.
