The diverse plant collections of the National Botanic Garden of Belgium mixed with the semi-natural habitats of the garden provide an idealenvironment in which to find a wide range of gall-forming organisms. Indeed,botanical gardens create an unintentional experiment into pest host specificity,providing a smorgasbord of potential hosts in close proximity to naturalreservoirs of plant pests. The National Botanic Garden's collections of Quercusare particularly suitable for these investigations as many different galling insectslive on native Quercus robur L. within the garden.
