When I search my memory foi the most exciting sea stoiy I have personally experienced, 1 surprise myself by feeling hard pressed to find anything dangerously noteworthy. It's been more than 15 years now that I have worked in various fisheries on the West Coast, trying to eke out a living. Oddly enough, the more memorable events of my life at sea seem to be heavily tainted with humor rather than salty tales of "close calls." Maybe that's part of the deal; if you're going to sit around in wet raingearand go bankrupt in the process, you had better develop a good sense of humor.
