Halibut fight continues: The sporties continue to make a huge fuss about being afraid that their halibut season will end in mid-July. Turns out it was the Sport Fishing Advisory Board itself that predicted a mid-July date for a potential closure. Thenits members created a huge media fuss making it appear as if DFO had made the announcement. DFO had not come out with any regulations for the sport fishery before the International Pacific Halibut Commission announcement planned for the end of the IPHCmeeting. From April until December 2010, a negotiation process under facilitator Roger Stanyer brought First Nations and recreational and commercial interests together to talk about options for a market-based transfer of quota between sectors.
