摘要

There are parts of the world where people have always lived without cars because no road access is possible or none has been provided. Some of these are historic areas or entire settlements, like Venice. In the 1990s, beginning in Germany and Austria, another movement with Utopian ideals began to promote the idea of 'carfree' new developments. Several of these have been built across various European countries, and were the original reason for my European travels.
