Gartrac G6s are a rare treat at the best of times, but as this is the only example to have been built at Malcolm Wilson Motorsport, it's a genuine 'one of a kind' machine. When Ford bid goodbye to the rear-wheel drive Mk2 Escort in 1980 and introduced the front-wheel drive MK3, it heralded the end of the Blue Oval's domination of rallying... for a time. Even in RS1600i form, the Mk3 Escort fell somewhat short of its rally-winning predecessor. Cue Gartrac. Surrey-based Gartrac had a long and successful association with Ford and played a major role in Ford's rallying success in the 1970s, becoming sole provider of Escort Mk2 bodyshells for the works team as the decade unfolded.
