The influence of age of parent stocks on the productive performance and carcass characteristics of broilers were studied in two separate experiments. In Experiment 1, 63 head of day-old chicks produced from each of the 29- and 58-week old broiler parent stocks were allocated into 3 treatment groups following a completely randomised design. The different treatments used are as follows: I-broilers produced from 29-week old parent stock; H-broilers produced from 58-week old parent stock; and, III-combination of broilers produced from parent stocks in treatments I and II. Each treatment was replicated 3 times with 14 broilers per replication. In Experiment II, 210 head of day-old broiler chicks produced from each of the 65- and 70-week old broiler parent stocks were used. Each treatment was replicated 14 times with 15 broilers per replication. The difference between the 2 treatments in 6-week body weight, feed conversion ratio, mortality rate, dressing percentage and cut-up parts was analyzed using T-test. Results in Experiment 1 showed significantly higher 6-week body weight and lower mortality rate of broilers produced by 58-week old parent stock than those produced by 28-week old parent stock. The difference in feed conversion ratio and in carcass characteristics between treatments was found to be insignificant. Results in Experiment II showed significantly higher body weight, better feed efficiency and lower mortality for broilers produced by 65-week old parent stock as compared to those produced by 70-week old parent stock. The difference between the two treatments in dressing percentage and in percent cut-up parts was found to be insignificant.
