Iraq's Parliament is currently considering a new national oil law.If passed,the law would transform the country's oil system from a nationalised model all-but-closed to US and UK oil companies,to a commercialised model,all-but-privatised and opened to US and British corporate control.Naturally such a radical change is provoking strong emotions and reactions both inside and outside Iraq.In this article,Antonia Juhasz,an analyst with Washington,DC-based Oil Change International and author of The Bush Agenda: Invading the World One Economy at a Time (Duckworth Publishers,2006),provides a timely and incisive analysis of the likely implications.
