Bayer CropScience last week announced it will be reducing methyl isocyanate storage by 80% at its site in Institute,W.Va. The facility's use and storage of MIC - an intermediate in the production of the pesticide methomyl that was responsible for the deaths of thousands of people in Bhopal, India when it was accidentally released from a plant there in 1984 - has been subject to much scrutiny after an explosion at the plant killed two workers last year.
