Utilization of Some Novel Insecticide Schedules in Insect Pest Management of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus)

A field experiment was conducted during kharif 2007 in the vegetable farm of the Division of Entomology, IARI, New Delhi in Randomized Block Design with ten treatments including a control. Seed treated with imidacloprid (3 g ai kg~(-1) seeds) or foliar spray either of thiamethoxam/ acetamiprid/imidacloprid @ 20 g ai ha1 effectively reduced leaf hopper population, Amrasca biguttula biguttula. Earias vittella damage among marketable fruits in different treatments ranged from 9.30-15.15% as compared to 22.45% in untreated control.Treatment schedule with 3 foliar sprays viz imidacloprid-bifenthrin - endosulfan was most effective as it gave 9.30% damage followed by imidacloprid seed treatment -endosulfan - endosulfan (9.99%) and thiamethoxam - indoxacarb - indoxacarb (10.30%). The study revealed that seed treated with imidacloprid/foliar spray of nicotinoids viz thiamethoxam, acetamiprid, imidacloprid is successful in managing the leafhopper, while other two foliar fortnightly sprays of bifenthrin/alphamethrin/endosulfan or alternatively bifenthrin and endosulfan are successful in managing the borer.
