Adsorption and desorption patterns of the herbicide alachlor in twelve soils having varying physico-chemical properties were studied. The laboratory experiments showed that herbicide adsorption and desorption in soils were predominantly influenced by the clay and organic carbon contents of the soil and hence a higher retention in these soils. Contribution of other soil parameters like pH, EC and CEC were insignificant on the adsorption and desorption phenomena of alachlor in soils.
