Field experiments were conducted at Horticulture Farm, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during 2007-08 and 2008-09 to determine bioefficacy of newer and conventional insecticides against mango hopper, Amritodus atkinsoni infesting mango. Of the nine insecticides evaluated, imidacloprid (0.0053%), thiamethoxam (0.0075%), acetamiprid (0.005%) and fipronil (0.0075%) were found effective in checking the hopper population. The costs of application for these insecticides were 2420, 2924, 2378 and 3092 Rs ha1, respectively. Carbaryl (0.2%), endosulfan (0.07%) and deltamethrin (0.0028%) were only moderately effective against mango hoppers. Dimethoate (0.03%) and phosphamidon (0.03%) were found less effective in controlling the pest. Dimethoate, deltamethrin, phosphamidon and endosulfan cost Rs. 1972 to 2252 per ha, while carbaryl had higher application cost (3820 Rs ha~(-1)).
