Four European and two U.S. animal rights and ethics groups have asked the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to take urgent action to prevent companies from conducting unnecessary animal testing. The move comes shortly after the European Commission adopted an in vitro test method in a regulation under REACH that should reduce animal testing for skin irritating chemicals (see box, Page 12).
