Washington-U.S.President George W.Bush last week urged Americans to increase their use of biodiesel and other alternative fuels and called for an enhanced renewable fuels standard(RFS)for the country.The Bush plan includes the goal of reducing U.S.gasoline consumption 20% by 2017."To reach this goal," he said,"we must increase the supply of alternative fuels by setting a mandatory fuel standard to require 35-billion gallons of renewable and alternative fuels in 2017," nearly five times the current target.Current U.S.laws call for fuel blenders to use 7.5-billion gal/yr of renewable fuels by 2012.
