Kinesport-Eastman Chemical, which earlier this year delayed an industrial gasification project planned for Beaumont, Texas, by at least two years, last week said it is has decided to discontinue the plan (PCN, 21 Sept 09, p 1). Eastman attributed its decision to "a number of factors, including high capital costs, the current and foreseen reduced spread between natural gas and oil and petroleum coke prices, and continued uncertainty regarding U.S. energy and environmental public policy."
