New Delhi-GAIL (India) has received board approval for its plans to nearly double high-density polyethylene (HDPE) capacity at its Pata plant, and has also gained approval in principle for a pipeline through central India, Indian industry sources said. GAIL, which currently has 410,000 t/y of HDPE capacity at Pata, has announced plans to initially increase capacity to 500,000 t/y and "gradually" raise output to 800,000 t/y (PCN, 8 Sept 08, p 1). Now that approval has been received, "a detailed report will be made, based on which the company will work out the investments required" for the project, a company spokesman added.
