San Dieso- Tate & Lyle and Genomatica have signed a joint development agreement for the demonstration scale production of Genomatica's 1,4-butanediol (BDO) from 100% renewable resources (PCN, 14 Feb 2011, p 3). Under the agreement, Tate & Lyle will provide a demonstration-scale manufacturing facility in Decatur, Ill., for exclusive use by Genomatica for the scale-up of its bio-BDO process. The plant will be "co-located" with Tate & Lyle's corn wet mill, "providing ready access to a cost-effective, renewable feedstock," Genomatica said. Operations are expected to begin in the third quarter.
