The approximately analytical scattering state solutions of the l-wave Schrodinger equation with the second Poschl-Teller-like potential are carried out by taking a new approximation scheme to the centrifugal term. The normalized analytical radial wave functions are presented and the corresponding calculation formula of phase shifts is derived. The energy levels of the bound states are also obtained from the poles of the scattering amplitude. Some numerical results are calculated to show the improved accuracy of our results and the s-wave case is studied briefly.
