The stark quantum beat of Ne fluorescence in the vacuum ultra violet region

The Stark quantum beats between the M = 0 and M = 1 magnetic sublevels of Ne atom Rydberg states were observed in electric fields up to 5 kV/cm, using synchrotron vacuum ultra violet radiation. It was confirmed that the beat frequencies depend on the electric field strength squared. The angular correlation of the fluorescence intensities and the Stark beat amplitudes of some Rydberg states were measured and the experimental results agree with the theoretical predictions. The tensor polarizabilities of the 26 Ne Rydberg states were determined from the field dependence of the M = 0 and M = 1 splitting. A comparison between the experimental frequencies and the values calculated using the jl coupling scheme and the MQDT analysis was attempted. [References: 37]
