Emergence of optical magnetism in stratified metal-dielectric metamaterials

摘要

Optical magnetism in stratified metal-dielectric metamaterials (SMDM) has been explored numerically. Effective permeability and permittivity in the semi-infinite SMDM have been extracted by two-complex reflectivity method. Huge negative permeability has been achieved and found that the real part reaches about -200 at 1.585 eV. The origin of the huge optical magnetism is ascribed to the exotic magnetic field distributions in SMDM.
