PHYSICISTS are rather special people. They have a unique feel for physical reality and an intuitive understanding of how things work, But where do these skills come from and how exactly does one pick them up? For most of us, the answer lies in our experiences at school and university. We learn how the parameters of a system affect its behaviour. We discover how to analyse real systems by creating idealized mathematical models. We work with these models, and compare the solutions with fundamental patterns, laws and structures.
