Scientists at Stanford University in the US have proposed a new spacebased gravitational-wave observatory known as LAGRANGE that would cost around half as much as the troubled $2bn LISA project, which is being scaled back because of funding shortages. The team has secured backing from NASA and the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia to launch a tiny test satellite by 2013.
