We propose a computationally straightforward method that allows us to successfully study large systems, far from thermal equilibrium, where analytical methods and Molecular Dynamics are not applicable. The main aspect of our method is a reduction of the microscopic dynamics, which should be judged from an a posteriori point of view. The Markovian evolution towards equilibrium of the system is computed by means of an Interactive Lattice Automaton model. We apply the method to the study of the statistics of classical atoms in a magnetic trap, and our results are in accordance with experimental results and with more sophisticated, and costly computer simulations.
