We have performed a theoretical approach of the magnetic field dependence of the critical current, I sub(c)(B) (B identical with 0-35 Oe), for superconducting samples with different sizes and critical current densities. In order to check our model we have adjusted a systematic experimental study made on variable width bridges (w identical with 50-2000 mu m) engraved in YBCO thick films. Regarding our bridges as sets of random linear arrays of coupled Josephson junctions, and with some microstructural knowledge, we have obtained families of curves I sub(c)(B, w) that reproduce in a semi-quantitative manner the observed experimental results. The percolative behavior and quantum interference effects between different current paths were considered to model qualitatively the experimentally observed quasi-oscillatory I sub(c)(B) dependencies. The mismatch between our model and others' similar attempts is also discussed.
