This report describes a general two-parameter decision theory as developed in experimental psychology as the theory of signal detectability. The report abstracts published research in seven areas in which the theory has been applied. The general theory is explicated in a technically precise, but non-quantitative form. Each of the substantive areas that contain abstracts from the literature are prefaced by introductory and explanatory remarks. Experimental and theoretical work that is critical of the decision theoretic approach within the substantive areas are included among the abstracts. Sufficient technical information and tabular material is contained to make it possible for the non-specialist to calculate the decision theoretic statistics from appropriately collected data.
