A high-performance liquid chromatography method of characterizing a brightener additive used in the acid copper sulfate plating bath has been developed. Three well-resolved sets of component peaks were developed using acetonitrile/water solvents on octadecylsilane or phenyl columns. The components were determined to be several molecular weight ranges of polyethylene glycols, an alkylphenolpolyethoxylate surfactant, and minor common contaminants. This method and the chromatogram are provided for future reference. 9 refs., 15 figs. (ERA citation 12:047934)
