A previous investigation on fully developed turbulent flows in a plane curved channel was reported by Eskinazi and Yeh (Ref. 1). In that investigation, a curved channel (the test section) formed by two concentric cylindrical walls was connected to the end of a long straight channel (the approach section) of the same height and width. It was found that after an arc angle of about 180° in the curved channel the flow became fully-developed in the sense that no further change in flow characteristics was noticeable from there on. Detail mean velocity and hot-wire measurements were then made in the fully developed region. Analysis of the results showed significant influence of curvature of mean flow on the turbulence characteristics.
