摘要

The goal of this research was to develop a rational method of designing dowel-type connections for hollow wood-plastic composite sections. Additionally, a method of predicting the load-displacement behavior of a connection with hollow members was developed for use in energy-based design and deformation calculations. A yield model consisting of six controlling yield modes was found to govern the hollow section connection behavior. A model for predicting load-displacement behavior of connections with hollow members was derived for the six controlling modes of the hollow section yield model. The models were validated with double-shear unconstrained bolted connection tests using two wood-plastic composite formulations, three wall thicknesses, and three dowel diameters.
