Development practitioners increasingly recognize the importance of targeting women in financial services. In 1992, Ohio State University reviewed the literature on women and financial services (savings, credit, and general banking activities) in developing countries. This annotated bibliography, the product of OSU's review, comprises 257 citations (each with an abstract), listed in alphabetical order by author or institution. Due to the relatively recent focus on the role of gender in development, the majority of the literature cited is from the 1980's. Most citations were published in the United States, although citations from Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin America are included.
