Disclosed are a sensitizing composition for thermalcancer therapy using electromagnetic waves and a method oftreating cancer using the same, wherein the sensitizingcomposition increases sensitivity upon treatment of cancerusing electromagnetic waves, and includes a metal ion, a metalion-bound material, "metal ion-noncovalently boundapotransferrin" (transferrin), or a metal ion-noncovalentlybound apotransferrin derivative. The sensitizing compositionthat targets cancer enables selective delivery of the metalion to tumorous tissue when administered in vivo, and thus thegeneration of heat in tumorous tissue in which the metal ionaccumulates is increased upon thermal cancer therapy usingelectromagnetic waves, thereby maximizing the efficacy of thethermal cancer therapy using electromagnetic waves in treatingcancer. Further, this thermal therapy using the sensitizingcomposition is effective at treating cancer without pain orside effects and is thus expected to be widely useful inanticancer treatment, and can also be used in combination withchemotherapy, radiation therapy, etc., ultimately increasingthe potential to cure cancer.
