摘要
This present utility model discloses the methods on how to improve water quality of intensive fish culture by using green mussels as bio-filters. Mussels fed on planktons and other micro-particles by filtering water through their gills. Mussels have also the ability to remove trace chemicals and pathogens which is found effective to improve water quality. Through bio-filtration, mussels can also reduce or control excessive growth of planktons, accumulation of sediments and other suspended particles that can pose problems to fish growth and survival. In the initial trial, using green mussels placed in the rearing pond, water supply canal, and pond reservoir showed that mussels as potential water cleansers could effectively filter pond water by controlling accumulation of sediments and the excessive growth of plankton. The effectiveness of filtration is manifested by the reduced level of water turbidity in the rearing pond.
