The invention relates to a target-detecting method (20) comprising processing a synthetic-aperture-radar (SAR) image, comprising steps consisting in: loading (100) an initial SAR image (ISAR); loading (110) an initial optical image (lopt); loading (120) additional graphical data (Data) associated with the initial optical image and relating to geographical elements present in said initial optical image; processing (130) at least one of the two initial images so as to make them suitable for superposition in a zone of overlap, in order to obtain a superposed radar image (ISAR/sup) and a superposed optical image (lopt/sup); determining (140) superposed additional graphical data (Datasup) from the additional graphical data (Data) and from the superposed optical image (lopt/sup); locating (150) geographical elements present in the superposed SAR image (ISAR/sup) at least on the basis of said superposed additional graphical data (Datasup); determining (155) the positions of potential targets from the superposed SAR image; and identifying (160) any false alarms by comparing the position of potential targets identified in the superposed radar image with any geometric shapes located in the locating step that resemble fixed structures on the ground.
