A data structure for use as a positive list (20) in a device, comprising an entry for each allowed communication partner of the device comprising - a first identifier (ID1) uniquely identifying the communication partner, - a value of a predetermined certificate field (ZA1) containing a certificate as uniquely assigned to the communication partner, and - in each case a check value (P1) of at least one certificate (Z1) of a communication partner which uniquely identifies the certificate (Z1). A method for updating the positive list (20) for certificates of permitted communication partners of a device, comprises the method steps: - receiving a new certificate (Zn1) from a communication partner in the device, - checking whether the positive list (20) has an entry with an identification ( ID1) of the communication partner and a value of a predetermined certificate field (ZA1) from the new certificate (Z1n), and - including a new check value (P1n) which uniquely identifies the new certificate (Z1n) in the positive list (20), if the review of the positive list (20) showed a positive result.
