The invention relates to a method, the EEG analyzed automatically in real time, epileptic bursts and atypical, epilepsy similar outbreaks recognizes and fires a trigger. The EEG (X) with two filters (1, 2) filtering (low pass filter and high-pass filter). After a rectifying equivalent function (3), the signal can be smoothed with an additional low pass filter (4). Then amplifies the signal (5) and optionally an adjustable offset (A) is added. Either a manual threshold value (D) or an automatically calculated threshold value (C, 6) is fed to the threshold detection (7). This triggers when an amplitude threshold is exceeded, a trigger signal (Y).
