The present invention relates to a laboratory system and method for acting on a living being or observing a living being. The laboratory system (10) according to the invention comprises a working chamber (100) for acting upon living beings (500), observing living beings (500) and/or caring for living beings (500), particularly an animal, under controlled environmental parameters such as temperature, air humidity and composition of fresh air. The working chamber (100) has a working opening (120) and at least one flow device for realizing one or more substantially laminar gas flows (130) in the working chamber (100). Said laboratory system (10) also comprises a container system (300) having a plurality of containers (400) for receiving a respective living being (500). According to the invention, an access (800) is arranged between the working chamber (100) and the container system (300), and the working chamber (100) and the container system (300) are arranged relative to one another in such a manner that at least one container (400) can be transported from the container system (300) into the working chamber (100) through the access (800).
