PURPOSE: A novel Lactobacillus brevis strain and a method for producing a large amount of gamma-aminobutyric acid by culturing the strain are provided to be used in food and feed industries.;CONSTITUTION: Lactobacillus brevis 3-30(KACC 91685P) produces gamma-aminobutyric acid(GABA). A method for producing gamma-aminobutyric acid comprises a step of culturing the strain in a culture medium containing 4-6%(w/v) of MSG(Monosodium Glutamate) at pH 5.5-6.5 and 31-33 deg. C under an aerobic or anaerobic condition for 40-60 hours.
