Disclosed is a method of discriminating a bovine individual whereby proteinsparticipating in the economicalcharacteristics of beef cattle are identified by a proteomic analysis and abovine individual having useful economical characteristics isdiscriminating with the use of these proteins as biomarkers. Also disclosed isa kit for discriminating a bovine individual to beused therein. The method of discriminating a bovine individual as describedabove comprises: (1) a collection step for collecting abody tissue from a bovine; (2) an extraction step for extracting all proteinsfrom the body tissue thus collected; (3) a detection stepfor detecting wild type annexin A5 protein, an isoform of the wild typeannexin A5 protein and a modified protein of the wild typeannexin A5 protein or the isoform thereof that are contained in the all of theextracted proteins; and (4) a discrimination step fordiscriminating whether or not the average carcass weight is increaseddepending on the detected annexin A5 types. The wild typeannexin A5 protein, the isoform thereof and modified proteins of the same aredetected by using two-dimensional electrophoresisor an antigen-antibody reaction.
