PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To create a multi-viewpoint image having a depth feeling with a smooth curved surface by creating an image having different brightness and contrast based on a difference between depth information and depth information of a background for each viewpoint from an input non-stereoscopic image of one viewpoint and generating an image obtained by adding parallax to the different image.SOLUTION: A composition unit 17 combines three basic depth models generated from frame memories 14-16 with a composition ratio according to values calculated by high-frequency component evaluation units 12 and 13 to generate depth data of a curved surface composing a background. An addition unit 18 adds an R signal component of a non-stereoscopic image and the depth data of the curved surface composing the background to generate depth estimation data. Luminance adjustment units 20a and 20b perform, for respective two viewpoints, luminance adjustment in which the R signal component is input as a depth difference indicating a difference between the depth estimation data and the depth data of the curved surface composing the background and the amplitude of a luminance signal of the non-stereoscopic image is increased as depth is closer to this side than the background based on the depth difference.
