Process and apparatus for hydrogen production. The apparatus comprising areforming exchanger (14) arranged in parallel with an autothermal reformer(10) supplied with a preheated steam-hydrocarbon mixture, an air-steam mixtureis supplied to the burner/mixer of the autothermal reformer (10) to obtainsyngas effluent at 650~ - 1050~C. The effluent from the autothermal reformer(10) is used to heat the reforming exchanger (14) and combined reformereffluent is fed to shift reactor (30) and to separator (32, 34) to beseparated into a mixed gas stream and a hydrogen-rich product gas stream.
