The damper (5) has an optimization module (13) arranged to deliver a desired setpoint effort value (Fc) to which the damper is subjected. A determination module (14) determines effective effort value (F). A control module (18) receives difference between a signal obtained from the determination module and a signal obtained from the optimization module as an input value. The control module delivers a control signal (e) to the damper for controlling damping coefficient of the damper so as to converge the determined effort by the determination module toward the setpoint effort value. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a semi-active suspension damper.
