The method involves outputting a touch signal during detection of approach of a foreign object with a monitored object, where the touch signal is intensified against an approach signal. Blinking of a vehicle blinker is used as an optical approach signal and/or an optical touch signal. Hooter alarm of reduced audibility or shorter hooter impulse is used as an acoustic approach signal. Hooter alarm of increased audibility or longer hooter impulse or continuous tone is used as an acoustic touch signal, which comprises speech output. An independent claim is also included for a device for performing a method for detecting approach of a foreign object at a monitored object.
