The device (3) has three-dimensional photonic mixing device cameras (5-1-5-4) comprising camera pixels and outputting image signals (S1-S4). An evaluation device (8) receives and evaluates the image signals. The cameras output distance signal (b-xy), and the evaluation device evaluates the distance signal of the camera pixels of the cameras for determining a three-dimensional enveloped surface of a measuring object i.e. maize plant (4), to be detected in a measuring region (7). The cameras comprise a radiation source for sending radiations at an optical range. An independent claim is also included for a method for optical measurement of a measuring object.
