The compressor (1) has a single-piece compressor wheel (2) arranged in a compressor housing (5), where the compressor wheel includes compressor blades (3) for compression of intake air and turbine blades (4) for expansion of the air. The compressor blades and the turbine blades are arranged on opposite end faces of the compressor wheel. A flow path (10) is provided between an inflow area (7) and/or an outflow area (8) of the compressor blades and an inflow area (9) of the turbine blades. A controllable check valve (11) is arranged in the flow path. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a turbocharger comprising a turbine housing (2) a method for operating a turbocharger.
