Disclosed herein is a microprogrammable electronic device having a code memory (23) storing a software and/or firmware code having a number of instructions. The microprogrammable electronic device is configured to compute a signature of the code stored in the code memory (23), and to detect any corruption of the code stored in the code memory (23) on the basis of the computed signature. The microprogrammable electronic device is characterized by being further configured to operate according to instruction cycles (C1, C2, C3, C4), each divided into a respective first (C11; C21; C31; C41) and a respective second (C12; C22; C32; C42) operating phase; to read a first instruction (I1; I2; I3; I4) from the code memory (23) at the first operating phase (C11; C21; C31; C41) of an instruction cycle (C1; C2; C3; C4); to decode and execute the read first instruction (11; I2; I3; I4) at the second operating phase (C12; C22; C32; C42) of the instruction cycle (C1; C2; C3; C4); to read a second instruction (W1; W2; W3; W4) from the code memory (23) at the second operating phase (C12; C22; C32; C42) of the instruction cycle (C1; C2; C3; C4); and to compute the signature on the basis of the read second instruction (W1; W2; W3; W4).
